Juniors to compete in OFC meet

PAPUA New Guinea, is one of the 10 Pacific teams to compete in next year’s OFC U17 championship in Auckland and they have revealed the players they hope will take them to the FIFA World Cup in Mexico next year.
The championships will take place in Auckland, New Zealand from Jan 8-19.
The tournament was scheduled to be held at Trust Stadium’s Douglas Field in Henderson but has now been moved to Albany’s North Harbour Stadium, the venue of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2010 and several other recent OFC tournaments.
New Zealand swept all before them at the Women’s Nations Cup and their youthful male counterparts will be hoping to do the same at the same ground next month.
The young All Whites are the defending champions, with former PNG coach Steve Cain wary of the tournament and has named a strong, attack-minded squad which he hopes will justify his side’s tag as favourites.
PNG coach John Davani, who was Cain’s assistant in 2004 OFC Nations Cup is also confident .
