Just more boomerang aid?

WHEN the prime minister explained the refugee asylum deal, it was suggested that there would be spinoff benefits for local businesses and people as well. Obviously, it means that they could expect sales, more contracts and jobs. It is not surprising that such promises are but promises as indicated by PNG Manufacturers Council CEO Chey Scovell (The National, Aug 13). Scovell said that domestic manufacturers of items which would be needed in the construction of the refugee camp in Manus have not received contact at all from the PNG or Australian governments or any tendering opportunities. Is this another case of the famous boomerang aid from Australia where 60-70% of it goes back down south?
