Justice for local workers

Letters

SOME foreign-owned companies are enslaving us and making us even poorer by underpaying local employees, neglecting superannuation and savings payments, breaching job security by hiring and firing employees and destroying and polluting our environment.
A classic example is the K3.5 billion loan from the ADB (Asian Development Bank) to upgrade Highlands Highway for 10 years from Nadzab to Mt Hagen.
The current contractor for the Chimbu section is underpaying employees with wages less than K350 and paying degree holders with K450-K500 a fortnight.
Local employees’ attempts to protest and complain subsided over fears of losing their jobs, leaving their families helpless.
I sympathise with my fellow Papua New Guineans regarding the struggle they are going through.
If Prime Minister James Marape is serious about taking back PNG, look into this underlying pressing issue to regain the trust and confidence of ordinary hardworking Papua New Guineans.
Otherwise, the Chinese aid has already cuffed this government and made us all slaves to our own soil.
