Juveniles charged over former UPNG student’s murder

FOUR juveniles have been charged with wilful murder of a former University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) student in Port Moresby, National Capital District Met Supt Gideon Ikumu says.
“These juveniles are primary and secondary schools students and are now in custody at the Boroko Police Station, they will appear before the Juvenile Court,” he said.
“They are accused of knifing the UPNG student to death.
“The victim was on his way to the campus at about 7.30pm last Thursday evening when the incident happened.” Supt Ikumu said a post-mortem had been done on the deceased as part of their investigation.
Meanwhile, UPNG vice-chancellor Prof Frank Griffin said the incident took place outside the campus, in the vicinity of Waigani residential area sharing boundaries with UPNG.
He said the deceased, whose name was withheld, was identified as a former student who resided outside the campus.
He said the deceased did not register this year, but did last year.
