THE Kokopo City Authority (KCA) board has approved and allocated K1 million from the district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds through its infrastructure grant for the Malakuna-Rainau road upgrade.
Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Jnr said the funding would go towards the one kilometre road work which would be an additional of the 200 metres that is currently under construction.
ToBaining said the 200m road from Ulaveo junction to Rainau was part of the training programme that the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) experts would train machine operators on how to use the new machines and the civil engineers on how to build roads.
He added that the additional one kilometre would be from Rainau to Makurapau-Malakuna which would come under the K1 million funding while the rest in the Bitapaka local level government that connected the ring road leading to Tokua Airport had been captured under the services improvement programme (PSIP) funding which K2 million had been approved and allocated for.
He acknowledged Jica for working with the ENB works and highways division on the project for capacity development on road maintenance phase two.
