STEAMSHIPS Trading Company continued their support for the Paralympics committee with a K10,000 presentation to assist with their preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.
Steamships managing director David Cox said the PNG Paralympics team had done PNG proud in the past two years to bring back a silver medal from the Beijing 2008 Paralympics Games and 27 medals from last year’s Arafura Games in Darwin.
Cox said the PNG Paralympics team had been outstanding with their performances and the company was proud to support the team again this year.
“We are happy to support our athletes with disability in their endeavours to realise their sporting dreams,” Cox said.
PNG Paralympics Committee chef de mission Dr Kefu Ma thanked Steamships for its continued support, saying the company had a strong relationship with the team.
“In 1994, Steamships sponsored 10 return-tickets to Beijing to enable the team to win five medals at the sixth Far-East and South Pacific Games for the athletes with disability, and its unwavering support had been proof of that through its generous donation every year,” Ma said.
He added that the team would be heading to New Delhi at the end of this month.
Ma said with the funds, it would enable the team to make necessary preparations before their travel.
