THE National Cultural Commission (NCC) gave the Papua New Guinea Fashion Week Ltd K10,000 recently to support 14 designers to market their products.
NCC executive director Steven Kilanda said Fashion Week founder and director Janet Sios had supported many local designers and small-to-medium enterprises who promoted the country’s culture through their designs.
Sios said the funding would go towards the filming production of the designers leading to the first virtual fashion and design runway next month.
“The support is not limited to this amount,” she said. “It is actually more that, about K50,000 in terms of logistics, film production, moving around the designers in the next two weeks in Port Moresby.”
Sios said PNG runways was unique because of the country’s many cultures and design creativity would thrive.
“It makes us a different platform from any runway in the world,” she said.
“We have been doing this for the last five years and we are going to go into another 20 years bringing the PNG runway to another level, where all the tourists will come here to watch it as there would be traditional dancers and music displayed during the event.”
