ITEMS with a total value of more than K100,000 have been confiscated from shops in Madang.
Officials from PNG Power, Madang urban health and sanitation, and Customs inspected the shops and removed the expired goods.
They also removed electrical appliances which did not comply with the PNG Power regulations.
Madang Customs Port Manager Vina Kakai said the aim was to achieve a good compliance level by end of the year.
Kakai said they discovered that some shop owners were ignoring the rules and selling illegal or expired items.
A store in the town was selling Lactogen baby milk which it did not have a licence to sellt.
The team advised the shopowner to make arrangements with pharmacies to sell the products since they have the licence for it.
Unlabelled drinks were removed plus electrical appliances from mostly Asian shops.
Expired frozen meat and food items taken off the shelves included goods and items not labelled in Tokpisin or English.
The items are being stored in the Madang provincial government yard.
They will be destroyed.
