THE West New Britain administration has pledged K100,000 in its budget to support the implementation of Ward One local marine management area in the Talasea area.
Provincial administrator Steven Raphael announced this when he officially launched the area management plan last Thursday at Kulungi village in the Talasea local level government.
The launching makes it the third local marine management area in the province apart from Lolobau and Tarobi islands in the Bialla LLG.
A marine conservation act passed by the Talasea LLG in 2004 allows for the communities in the LLG to develop management plan to protect their marine resources.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Nature Conservancy and Mahonia na Dari, a non-governmental conservation group working to protect marine resources along the Kimbe Bay.
