K10mil spent on major SHP projects

 THE Southern Highlands provincial government has spent more than K10 million on major projects in the province.

Governor William Powi said in Mendi yesterday the funding was from the provincial service improvement programme committed to funding existing infrastructure.

Among the projects funded are:

K1 million for the Mendi-Tambul road upgrading to continue on the 8km of the 12km road;

K1 million to continue the Bush-Karinz road upgrading;

K1 million continuation of Mendi town road tar-sealing; 

K300,000 for a Mendi town water and sewerage feasibility study by Water PNG;

K500,000 for the Yaria-Kagua road upgrading;

K500,000 for Mendi public toilets;

K500,000 to continue with Agiru Centre rehabilitation;

K2 million for the growth centre;

K250,000 for a master plan workshop for public servants;

K300,000 to Kubon Lawyers as ordered by the courts;

K300,000 for provincial administration; 

K500,000 to Telikom PNG to set up Vsat and internet services to seven high schools and five secondary schools in the province. 

Another K1.5 million has been allocated to settle outstanding debts and other provincial government legal bills.

Powi said he would also fund pro­jects in other parts of the province.
