HOUSING Minister John Kaupa says about K11 million is needed to pay the National Housing Corporation workers in a year.
Kaupa said the NHC employees were not included on the Government payroll system. He plans to see that happening soon.
“That’s why we struggle for finance. We have to make money and pay workers,” he said.
“We collect money from the run-down (NHC) properties to pay workers.
“Otherwise we sell properties.
“I’m working on getting those (NHC workers) on the government payroll.”
The NHC has been selling properties around the country to paypay its workers.
The revenue that it collects from its tenants is not enough to meet the salaries of its workers.
Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan yesterday confirmed that NHC workers needed to be included on the Government payroll.
He said the National Broadcasting Corporation and Ombudsmen Commission were the other government organisations which were currently outside the government payroll system.
