THE Correctional Service has secured K12.4 million for the re-development of the Boram state-of-the-art prison facility. The funding news came at a time when 17 inmates in a mass break-out on July 17 are still at large while one of them has been shot dead by authorities. Correctional Service Minister Tony Aimo asked them to voluntarily surrender and made the funding announcement during his Independence Day message during his visit to the jail last week Mr Aimo said the current jail blocks were situated in the planned extension for the Boram Airport to international status. The Boram jail blocks that is opposite the Wewak Golf Course will both be relocated as the National Government and Transport and Civil Aviation develop the extension of the Boram Airport. Mr Aimo said work on the new facility would begin as of next year. The minister revealed this during his visit to the Boram jail last week where he met inmates and presented a keyboard to the prisoner’s Christian outreach programme, a television set and DVD player.
