TWO projects worth K12 million for Wabag open electorate aimed at empowering and improving the social and economic conditions of the people were signed between the state and the contractors yesterday.
The two projects are the Wabag market valued at K7.48 million and the Wabag poultry packaging and vegetable costing K5.4 million.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member for Wabag Sam Abal and the two contractors, Niugini Builders and Amec Constructors signed the projects at the Golden Bowl Restaurant witnessed by councillors and presidents from the three LLGs, government officers and the media.
Niugini Builders will be constructing the Wabag market while Amec Construction will build the poultry project and the vegetable depot.
Abal said the project was important in targeting his people to give up fighting and take up space programme initiated during his term in office.
He said the people would be involved in entrepreneurial activities and improve their standard of living as they generate income with the opportunities provided for them.
He added that the people would produce vegetable and sell them at the market while the surplus would then be sold to the vegetable storage depot to be sold to markets outside the province.
Abal said the poultry project was the biggest in the district and would compete with other established chicken raising companies.
He said the two projects would be owned by the Wabag urban local level government, Wabag rural and Maramuni and would aim to generate income to assist in the development of the electorate.
Abal said the project would be completed next year as the material have all arrived from Denmark, ready to start the ground work.
He said the poultry project would process about 1,000 chickens per hour while the supply would be sustained through a nucleus method of agriculture with more than 30,000 being raised by the company and another 50,000 from the people.
