K1m for students
The National, Tuesday January 14th, 2014
MILNE BAY students attending tertiary institutions will receive financial assistance from the provincial government, according to Governor Titus Philemon.
The provincial executive council on Friday approved transfer of K1 million from another project to fund the scholarship for students.
This is to avoid the late release of students fees affecting their education.
Philemon said although the K1 million schoarship fund had been approved as part of the 2014 provincial budget in December, it was feared that the implementation could be delayed again.
“This is critical as students and institutions will require the funds to be made available for the school fees and also to secure spaces for the students earlier in February,” he said.
The scholarship scheme was increased from K200,000 last year to K1 million this year. Tertiary students are to inquire with the Education Division to access the funds.
