A MAJOR car dealer in Port Moresby recently supported a canoe racing competition with trophies.
Ela Motors PNG sponsored the Vanagi (Aloha) Koroli Association, with a donation of K2,200 worth of trophies on Dec 17 in Port Moresby.
The Ela Motors area manager Bennie Irali was pleased to present the trophies to the association’s chairman Wapa Willie Vuina on behalf of the company.
The trophies were awarded to the grand final winners of the 2021 Vanagi Aloha Canoe Race.
Vuina said that the annual canoe race was approaching its final stage and had been a success for the communities involved to see 24 canoes participating in the 2021 competition with the support of Ela Motors.
“Thank you Ela Motors for being our major sponsor for the past two years,” he said. “This has brought a positive impact to our community and we are very grateful for this assistance.”
Ela Motors PNG chief executive officer Mitsuyoshi Okutsu highlighted that the Vanagi community was a special and important neighbour to the business at its Badili office in Moresby South and urged both parties to take the opportunity to create a resilient bond to prosper together.
He said the company recognised that supporting the welfare of its neighbouring community through sports and youth development was an obligation to the people and it strived to honour it in line with its corporate philosophy to live, prosper and sustainably grow with the people, communities and the country.
