K20m to build markets
The National, Wednesday March 2nd, 2016
NATIONAL Capital District has allocated K20 million for three markets in the city to meet vending demands.
National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop told The National last Sunday that the amount was for the 6-Mile, 9-Mile and Tokarara markets.
“Before the end of the year, we will have new markets at Tokarara, 9-Mile and 6-Mile,” Parkop said.
He said last year that he had no intention to stop vendors in informal and formal sectors but would work with them to be successful, responsible and reliable citizens.
“I want you all to be part of the change so that we all can lift our city and be an example to other provinces,” he said.
Marketing space is limited, therefore vendors were found marketing in unauthorised areas.
“Marketing is my only means of survival here in the city, but I have no place in the authorised markets because the places have been claimed by other vendors,” Taita Kundi said earlier while selling corn opposite Port Moresby Haus Bet at Gordon.
