THE 36th National Gaming Fishing titles in Port Moresby is expected to be one of the biggest events, attracting 250 anglers from seven game fishing clubs in PNG.
The event set for April 16-25, got a morale boosting K22,000 sponsorship from SP Brewery last week.
Port Moresby Gaming Fishing club president Bob O’Dea said they were expecting more than 60 teams from PNG, including participants from other countries.
“This is by far the biggest sporting event considering the huge number of participants as well as the amount of sponsorship that has come on board,” O’Dea said.
SP Brewery general manager Stan Joyce said SP had always been on the forefront in assisting various sports.
“With the growing sport like game fishing we decided to continue our commitment to further develop the sport,” he said.
“I know the event also gives us the opportunity to promote PNG’s many diving and fishing hotspots, including our many scenic holiday destinations to our international anglers. I encourage other sponsors to come on board,” Joyce said.
A K400 registration fee is charged for anglers intending to participate and should be paid at the Yachties Gaming Fishing Club.
The club will be distributing most of the catch to various charity organisations in Port Moresby.
