THE Lae Golf Club will next week host 41 professionals competing for K230,000 in prize money at the NKW Morobe Open.
The tournament will tee off on May 2, with professionals and amateurs from Australia, Korea, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea vying for the coveted Morobe Open title.
“Former Fiji International tournament winner Steven Jeffress and the 2018 Coca–Cola Queensland Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Championship winner Daniel Fox are the more experienced players in the field, who would dearly like to add the Morobe Open to their list of tournament victories,” tournament coordinator Nicole James said in a statement.
“The next generation of players can’t be discounted as they are waiting for their opportunity to take the title.
“They include Brett Rankin, Matthew Stieger, Dale Brandt-Richards and Josh Younger, just to name a few of the rising stars competing in this year’s Morobe Open.
“We are looking forward to returning to the Lae Golf Club for what will be another memorable week on the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series schedule.
“The golf course was in outstanding condition and presented beautifully for last year’s event.
“We are excited to see the Lae Golf Club course 12 months on for what is certain to be a fantastic tournament week.
“The NKW Morobe Open offers Papua New Guineans an opportunity to experience professional golf of an international flavour.
“The tournament is a great promotion for golf and hopes to inspire the next generation of golfing superstars in PNG.”
