THE Lae Biscuit rugby league nines challenge is set for Dec 11-16 with K24,000 in cash prizes.
Lae Snax Tigers coach Stanley Tepend confirmed that the champions of the nines tournament will walk away with K10,000, runner-up K6000, third place K4000 and fourth K2000.
The player of the tournament will pocket K1000, the most discipline team and the most organised teams will get K500 apiece.
“Prizes and teams have increased and days have also increased so it will be more exciting,” Tepend said.
Tepend said the registration fee per team was K500 with the deadline set for Dec 6 and interested teams should contact Francis Moya on 74561154 for more information.
“This tournament is the Lae Snax Tigers’ main selection process period annually,” he said.
“Tigers will commence training after this event in preparation for the Melanesian Cup with a venue to be confirmed by PNG Rugby Football League and PNG National Rugby League competition board.
“We have released a few players and also some players may be moving on and also going to PNG Hunters so we will have spots to be filled for 2018 season.
“All current Tigers players are required to play and take part in this tourney with their respective teams as it’s run by our main sponsor — the Lae Biscuit Company and Prima Small Goods.
“Our main message for this 9s is ‘respect referees’ decisions.’ We will be promoting this message.
