K30 million needed for curriculum procurements, meet told

About K30 million is required to complete the standards-based curriculum (SBC) for primary, secondary and phonics procurements to be implemented by 2020, senior education officers were told during a conference at Eastern Highlands.
The costing will cover the printing of high school syllabuses, teaching guides, grades four to six citizenship and Christian values education (CCVE), teaching guides and training of the SBC high school subjects.
Acting first secretary curriculum and measurement, Annemarie Kona, and assistant secretary curriculum development division Steven Tandale presented the progress report on the SBC at a press conference.
Despite the financial implications which the department has made request for, the SBC is currently progressing well.
According to the presentation made, by the Education Departments curriculum and measurements division, the full implementation of SBC elementary began in 2017.
The writing of SBC for junior primary level was completed in 2017 and printed last year.
Teacher training was done in few provinces by teachers colleges and was ready to be delivered to schools in 2018.
Junior and senior high school syllabuses and teacher guides writing has been completed, printed, packed and labelled for delivery by end of July this year.
The CCVE preparatory, grade one to three syllabuses and teacher guides have been written.
Printing has also been completed and packing and labelling are being done for delivery towards the end of this year.
Writing of the CCVE for grades four to six has already started this month.
The writing of the CCVE syllabuses and teachers’ guides for grades seven to 12 will start in early 2020.
The CCVE is expected to be fully completed by mid 2020.
