A THREE-year deal worth K300,000 was signed between Dobo Warriors, the Koiari Rugby League and State-owned enterprise EDA Ranu at the company’s head office last Friday.

Under the deal, the Warriors would receive K60,000 and Koiari league K40,000 each year and the funding may increase pending the approval of Eda Ranu’s board. Those who witnessed the signing include Eda Ranu’s chairperson Mary Karo, chief executive offier Henry Mokona, director Peter Inara, Warriors president Jack Ninkama, Koiari league’s Tamati Minama and landowner Steven John.

Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s Gwaibo Mairi, Port Moresby’s vice-chairman Wari Varage and Suburban league’s Billy Aki were present during the occasion.

Karo said it was a partnership between the company and Koiari teams — including the landowners  — and they were grateful to support them progress and develop in sports.

She said Inara made an initial recommendation of K70,000 but the board  raised it to K100,000.

Warriors president Ninkama said the club had produced Kumuls such as Josiah Abavu, Sebastine Pandia, Adam Korave, Kato Ottio, Bland Abavu (now with the PNG SP Hunters) and Henry Wan for Digicel Cup franchises.

He said the funds allocated by Eda Ranu were for the players match payment and would help impact on the players performance and motivate them in their sporting careers.
