PNG Ports Corp Ltd (PNGPCL) is spending K30 million on a 20-year remodelling plans for Lae, PNG’s largest port.
This was disclosed by PNGPCL chief executive officer Brian Riches in Lae last week when he addressed representatives of shipping companies, port users and other stakeholders.
“As part of our forward planning for Lae Port, we have appointed consultants and a report is due for presentation towards the end of the year for a 20-year master plan for Lae port,” Riches said.
He said this plan would guide PNGPCL as its new initiatives and remodelling exercise for the Lae port nears completion.
“Most of these new initiatives will be completed this year, 2011,” Riches said.
Lae port is PNG’s biggest port with a cargo throughput of more than 3.2 million tonnes a year.
