K36mil EU funding for Tvet contracts

TEN vocational educational training centres will share K36 million worth of contracts to improve their infrastructure.
The contracts are funded by the European Union.
The institutions are Badili and Morata Vocational Training centres in the National Capital District, Raval and Kabaira in East New Britain, Kamaliki in Eastern Highlands, Yawasoro in East Sepik, Bulolo and Umi in Morobe, Laiagam and Pombabus in Enga.
“I am really excited to be part of this. We continue to support and develop the human resource of the nation and this is what we are currently doing and will continue to do so,” EU Ambassador Ioannis Giokarakis-Argyopoulos said during the signing of the contracts in Port Moresby yesterday.
Development of critical infrastructure in the schools under the Human Resource Development Phase 2 project is a PNG Education Department programme aimed at increasing access to quality lower secondary vocational education and training funded by the EU.
“Under the current programme, we foresee to allocate close to K100 million to support mainly the construction of infrastructure in 10 technical and vocational centres in the country,” Giokarakis-Argyopoulos said.
Department of National Planning and Monitoring Secretary Hakaua Harry said contracts to Atlas Steel PNG and Rhodes PNG marked yet another milestone in the partnership between the EU and Papua New Guinea.
