FOUR men intercepted a company bank run in Kokopo, East New Britain and made off with K38,000 in a security firm vehicle on Tuesday.

According to East New Britain police commander, Supt Sylvester Kalaut the incident took place at 2.20pm at the Rabaul Shippng ticketing office at Vunapope.

A female employee with Rabaul Shipping Ltd was transferring the money bag to the waiting security vehicle to go the bank when the masked suspects approached them and held them up with bush knives and firearms.

The suspects also managed to stab a security officer who was guarding the office that time. They got the money and escaped with the vehicle.

This scenario surprised customers who were lined up outside the ticketing office to purchase tickets and some even fled for their lives in fear of the armed suspects.

Reportedly other security firms turned up too late at the scene of crime as the robbers had already taken off with the cash.

Kalaut said police have not made any arrests yet and were working on retrieving the vehicle belonging to the security firm.

He has appealed for the community to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
