The Department of National Planning has allocated about K3m to government departments for capacity-building.

Planning Secretary Hakaua Harry, at the presentation of a vehicle and equipment to the Department of Lands and Physical Planning yesterday, said one of the components of the programme was to assist departments perform their responsibilities in the affordable land and housing programme. “We all know that the affordable land and housing project had been implemented last year and all the other government departments and agencies are part of this programme,” she said.

“My department is coordinating the overall programme given that we play a neutral role to ensure that all the other stakeholders are involved to play their respective parts in this programme. This programme came into place given the chronic issues and we need to bring on board other land issues that are surrounding it.

“It’s one of the important things that the Government needs to address and through this programme we are managing that.

“This is an important occasion where we are coming in to support the alienated land division through the presentation of the equipment and the vehicle.

“We have supported the other divisions, including Office of Valuer-General, Survey-General and Registrar of Titles.

“The Government has supported these offices and the support will continue and the Lands Department has assured us that it will provide that support to make land affordable.

“We will continue to provide the Government support in this programme because it is important to boost the capacity of the Government agencies to performing.”
