THE East New Britain executive council has endorsed K3 million to upgrade and reseal the Taui to Bitapaka road in the Kokopo district.

Governor and council chairman, Ereman ToBaining Jnr yesterday presented the cheque to the Gazelle Restoration Authority (GRA) manager Peter Buak for the work to start on the 3km stretch of road.

He also appealed to GRA to screen contractors properly to ensure quality work.

“We need qualified companies and contractors that will be engaged to give us quality work,” ToBaining said.

Buak acknowledged the funding, saying assessment of contractors had been done and the contract would be awarded this week.

Meanwhile, deputy provincial administrator Edward Lamur said K20 million under the provincial services improvement programme (PSIP) funding had been allocated to various impact projects in ENB.

Lamur said so far K8 million had been released, with K2 million going to the Mataure Rabaul Micro-finance Ltd and K3 million towards the Bitapaka road.

He said K3 million would be released in the next two weeks for projects such as water supply and other roadworks.
