THE Ijivitari development authority (DDA) and Fimali Ltd Engineered Solutions will build a water treatment plant for the St Margaret’s Hospital in the Oro Bay local level government (LLG) in Northern.
To initiate the K1 million plant, the Ijivitari DDA presented K400,000 to partners Fimali Ltd on Friday to start the project.
Fimali had carried out a feasibility study last year and with the funding now made available, the project is expected to start soon. Ijivitari MP Richard Masere said St Margaret’s Hospital catered for about 100,000 people in four LLGs of Tufi, Afore, Safia and Oro Bay.
He said the hospital had an old water system that was not working well for a long time.
“The reason we engaged Fimali was because we trust the work they do and the quality of output in some of the provinces, districts and mining projects give us the confidence,” he said.
“The water supply will cover the hospitals and staff homes, as well as provide safe water.
“We are now progressing that project and we would like to see it take place as soon as possible.”
The K1 million for the water plant was part of that funding to upgrade the water system for the hospital.
Fimali Ltd Engineered Solutions manager Harry Mathers said the water treatment plant would supply World Health Organisation-standard drinking water for the people.
