LANDOWNERS of Meni village in the heart of Wewak, East Sepik, are calling on the provincial government and the Lands Department to speed up compensation payment for a town road which runs through their coastline.

Spokesman Carl Kaiwor said they were demanding the government to pay them K5 million for taking away their land for the road connecting the town to the wharf and airport.

The road  runs from Windjammer beach to Mobil junction covering 500m was naturally sealed off with debris and sand deposits by a king tide in 2008.

East Sepik provincial lands chairman Francis Hevu said the provincial government was aware of the case and the they were awaiting the visit of officers from the Finance Department to verify reports.
