K50,000 boost for AIDS group

IN its continuous support of the fight against HIV/AIDS, Steamships Trading company donated K50,000 to the Business Coalition Against HIV/AIDS (BAHA) last week.Steamships finance director Eddie Ruha praised BAHA’s programme for this year where it conducted nationwide awareness campaigns during the election period to counter the spread of HIV/AIDS, other sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies among young girls.Ruha said the work BAHA did had contributed significantly to increased awareness of the deadly disease in the corporate sector and wider community through its training and awareness programmes. He said Steamships was involved in a number of community projects of awareness, including the YWAM medical ship, which provided medical service and awareness on HIV/AIDS.“Steamships is pleased that it can give back to the community through organisations like BAHA, YWAM and others,” Ruha said. BAHA general manager, Caroline Bunemiga said Steamships had always been a supporter of BAHA and was pleased with its continuous support towards its work. Bunemiga said there was a bumper sticker promotion coming up soon and all its members would be advised of it in time.Steamships is a gold sponsor of BAHA and this year marks its third year of support.Public relations officer Wanita Wakus said before 2010 the company had given financial help to BAHA.
