NOW the time is right with Abau MP Sir Puka Temu giving K50,000 as the first installment of his K200,000 commitment to new franchise Central Chiefs’ bid for PNG National Rugby League competition – the Digicel Cup.

Sir Puka, who is also the Minister for Public Service, is the first national politician to jump on the Central franchise band wagon.

The major sponsor is the Central Provincial Government through Governor Kila Haoda, who has made assurance that he will fully back and support the bid.

Also Rigo MP and Attorney General Ano Pala, Kairuku Hiri MP Peter Isoaimo and Goilala MP William Samb have indicated their support for the Chiefs.

That was the guarantee by the national politicians while business houses in Central are being lined up to come on as minor sponsors.

Sir Puka presented the K50,000 to Central Chiefs bid chairman Jack Kedea at the Central Provincial Government office last week.

He said the Abau District fully supported the bid by the Chiefs to enter the national competition.

He said the funding was made available through the Abau District Development Authority.

Sir Puka said the balance of K150,000 would be presented in three lots during the 2016 season.

He said this funding would kick start the franchise’s preparation to enter the semi-professional competition which starts in April.

He said the main reason the ADDA was helping was so rugby league players were given the opportunity to show case their talents and skills at the elite level.
