K50m for district hospitals: Temu:

THE Government has allocated about K50 million to improve district hospitals, says Health and HIV/Aids Minister Sir Puka Temu, pictured.
He told the annual conference of the Christian Health Services in Port Moresby yesterday the amount each hospital would get depended on their submission to the department.
The funding is for all district hospitals including government and church-run ones.
“Whether they are applying for the funding to do a hospital upgrade, maintenance or to renovate a hospital that has been abandoned for years,” he said.
“Those information has to be shared and communicated properly to the health secretary and the deputy health secretary’s office for approval.”
Sir Puka said the allocation would be made during the May session of Parliament.
“The health sector in this 2018 budget has a strong support from the Government. Health remains one of the top five priorities of the government.”
The health budget is more than K1.3 billion – which is 10 per cent of the national budget. “That means the prime minister has made the commitment to fully fund the health sector. Our challenge is how we manage these resources. Every player has to have access to every resource, now that we have to advance the establishment of district hospitals,” Sir Puka said.
