A JETTY project worth K5 million currently under construction at the Vunapope-Omorong beach front in Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), will serve small craft operators and fish vendors once completed.
ENB division of fisheries and marine resources officer Dickson Kondaul said the project was funded by the National Fisheries Authority (NFA).
Kondaul said the construction of the jetty was the project’s first phase and the second phase was on shore development.
Kondaul said the on shore development project would cost around K5 million with counterpart funding from the NFA and the provincial services improvement programmes (PSIP) funds.
He said the on shore development would include a fish market.
“The two projects will complement the ENB tourism hub as well as the Kokopo City status when completed,” Kondaul said.
“The two projects will also cater for the costal artisanal fisheries after its completion.”
Kondaul urged the provincial government to work in partnership with the authority to deliver the two projects on time.
He urged the provincial government to support the project’s second phase as the construction of the jetty was funded by the NFA.
He said NFA would continue to support the two projects.
