K5mil set for new clinic building: MP
MILFORDHAVEN Clinic at Papuan compound in ward three of Lae urban local level government (LLG) will soon have a new building constructed after funds were secured, says Lae MP John Rosso.
The clinic built in 1964 to serve settlers from the Southern was in need of an upgrade in order to serve the growing population in the community of ward three, people from other parts of the LLG, as well as the neighbouring Wampar LLG in Huon Gulf.
Rosso told The National that K5 million had been secured for the construction of the new clinic building and it was in the tendering process and work would start as soon as the contract was awarded.
“I’ve already secured the funding as it is one of the most important urban clinics that caters for a large population and complements the new Angau Hospital funded by the Australian government,” he said.
“The plan is that we build good permanent clinics in each ward as in West Taraka, a modern clinic has been built from aid money from the Asian Development Bank and also at Tent City, another clinic has been built.
“I also have plans to build a district hospital at Malahang.”
