THE new Butuka Shenzhen Institute will cost K70 million and cater for about 3600 pupils from elementary to secondary.
Funded by Shenzhen City in China under an aid agreement for high-impact projects in health, education and other sectors between the city and National Capital District, the institute will have 58 classrooms, an apartment building for 12 staff, a standard rugby field, a 1000-seat indoor assembly hall and volleyball, netball and basketball courts.
There will be backup water and power and the compound will be fenced and secured.
The three levels of schooling will enrol 800 elementary students, 1800 primary and 1000 secondary students. Preference will be given to students attending other schools in the Moresby South electorate. The school will be completed in about two months and named Tenzen Institution. It is to be opened by the Chinese President on November 15.
About 15,000 live in the electorate now.
Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko emphasised the need to raise teaching standards to complement the new institute
“Teachers should be there only to educate our children,” he said.
“The magnitude of this school will require professional administration of all areas besides the academy.”
