MORE than K70 million has been spent on the rural population of Lufa district, Eastern Highlands, to access rural services and development over the past 10 years, district administrator Peter Gare says.
He said this at the opening of four teachers’ houses at Gotomi Primary School. The opening coincided with the school’s Grade 8 graduation last Friday.
“Out of the K70 million, the Lufa district education sector received a good portion of the money,” Gare said.
He thanked Lufa MP and Vice-Minister for Finance and
Treasury Yawa Silupa, who spearheaded the district joint budget and priority committee (JDBPC) to evenly spread the services across the district.
“I thank MP (Silupa) for supporting the district education sector by building classrooms, teachers’ houses, school libraries and rehabilitating some of the school buildings,” he said.
Gare challenged the 62 Grade 8 students who passed to be competitive and remain focused to excel in life.
Silupa said he made sacrifices to bring services to the people of Lufa.
He said consequently they opened up several bridges, rural electrification, road maintenance, classrooms, teachers’ houses, libraries and will continue to open more before the 2012 election.
