KABA stages successful event

KAIRUKU Amateur Boxing Association staged one of the successful tournaments over six days, attracting more than 375 boxers from 36 clubs in Central and the National Capital District.
At a presentation ceremony over the weekend, Wari Vele Agencies representative Ricky Berua handed over K10,000 in cash prizes and catering funds for the event.
Association vice-president George Mapai thanked the company for the funds to develop sports, especially boxing.
He said the company would also be supporting Team Central with K15,000 to fund their trip to the Arafura Games.
Eighteen boxers were selected for the event to attend the national amateur boxing trials and 14 others will be attending the Arafura Games.
PNG Amateur Boxing Union tournament director Dick Larry said some referees were also identified.
He said there was a lot of potential in most of the fighters making it difficult for selectors to come with a final squad.
Team Central men’s team for the Arafura Games: Charles Kemau (49kg), Romano Inapi (52kg), Eric Ipautsi (56kg), Cornelius Inapi (60kg), Mathew Ume (64kg), Noel Eko (69kg), Michaels Oaeke (75kg) and Nick Aisa (81kg) while the women’s side is
Elizabeth Ome (48kg), Philo Magaiva (51kg), Angela Ine’e (54kg), Joan Mapai (56kg), Conelia Ako (69kg) and Elizabeth Aukapuga (75kg).
Tournament chairman Allan Waike thanked Wari Vele Agencies for the support.
