Kaekae aspires to improve health services

Education

Australia Awards PNG scholarship awardee Paul Duen Kaekae aspires to improve health care services in communities he will serve after graduation.
Kaekae, a former flight steward, was currently completing a Diploma in General Nursing at Lutheran School of Nursing.
He said a training in first aid and aviation medicine sparked his ambition in a nursing career.
“Now that I have taken up nursing, I strive to learn as much as I can, complete this programme successfully and become a change agent in the community,” he said.
“My long-term goal is to gain more experience in the nursing field and complete a bachelor’s degree in midwifery so that I can contribute to women’s health, as the maternal morbidity and mortality rate in PNG remains unacceptably high and is among the worst in the world.”
