NEW entry into the National Football League (NSL) Kagua Erave Football Club are serious about their participation in the semi-professional competition, with coach Steven Mune adamant they will field a very strong team.
Mune’s comment follow the football club’s player selection trials at Kagua Station over the weekend and the calibre of the NSL-experienced players recruited.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the trials in Kagua, Mune said:“On the first day of the trials I have seen a number of good players and I am impressed, they’ve got the skills and knowledge of playing football. I have seen good midfielders, good strikers, basically good offensive players, skilful players who can play other positions and defence. Many of them are utility players.”
Mune played for PNG 14 times and is a OFC certified coach.
He said the players’ names would be kept under wraps until the final list would be confirmed when they go into training at the NSI in Goroka this week.
The veteran coach was also mindful of the NSL level of competition. “We’ve got two weeks remaining and we are more focused on getting the team to really understand what NSL level of football is all about. NSL level is high. That’s semi-professional football and it’s going to be very competitive but we are determined to meet the standard,” Mune said. The selection trials held in Kagua on January 4-5 for the Kagua Erave electorate included Kagua, Batri, Erave and Yokoro associations which fielded at total of six teams
