The move was revealed by the Wewak Urban Authority environmental health inspector, Patterson Mamae.

Mamae in an interview in Wewak a notice had been given to kaibar owners to improve their facilities.

He said that kaibars should have facilities such as tables, chairs, tissues/table towels, dish of water and floors should have tiles or floor mats.

He said the tiles and mats would prevent dust from getting onto food that was prepared.

“It is a must all these kaibars have fly traps,” Mamae said.

Mamae added that they were giving time to the property owners to make changes to their food shop.

“Owners of the Kaibars in Wewak must know that, it is important they consider these things as human beings will be buying food from their kaibars,” he said.

He said selling of cold water in the town was not allowed because some cups and plastics containers were not properly washed.

He said that they did not know where the sellers were getting the water from.

Health awareness will be given to every household with in the Wewak urban LLG soon.

“While conducting awareness there would inspections to every household,” he said.

Mamae said it would help identify what facilities each household owned so that each family could sell goods depending on the facilities they had.
