RUGBY league fans in Kainantu, Eastern Highlands, now can watch their favourite game on EMTV, courtesy of the game’s staunch supporter and businessman John Hureka Noto.
Speaking from Kainantu, Noto said he had gone to the rescue to help restore EMTV service in the gateway township after the business community and residents received no help from government authorities.
He said Kainantu had been without an EMTV service for several months until last Wednesday when he gave some financial support to bring in technicians to restore the service.
The residents of Kainantu and the surrounding villages now have chance of watching their favourite Digicel Cup team – Goroka Lahanis – and their own NRL teams on EMTV.
Noto said as a well-liked community businessman he had to step forward to chip in where he felt it was a worthwhile community project – and restoring the EMTV signal for people was one such project.
Noto is no stranger in supporting sports. His company, Gateway Bakery, in Kainantu, is a great sponsor of rugby league, touch and basketball competitions that attracted good players and a strong supporters’ base during the competition.
The competition is on recess as many officials and players are involved in the general election in Eastern Highlands.
He acknowledged the support of prominent businessman and Bintangor Lahanis franchise owner Simon Sia for supporting sports in Kainantu in recent years.
