KAIRUKU Amateur Boxing Association (KABA) yesterday lauded the financial support of K10,000 from Central Governor Alphonse Moroi to stage a boxing challenge.
KABA president Philbert Aisaisa said the support was a sign of confidence in his administration to develop and promote boxing in the Kairiku-Hiri district.
He said the funding also paved way for the two factions – KABA and the Andrew Maigaiva-led group to resolve their differences.
Furthermore, KABA welcomed their local MP Paru Aihi for joining hands with Moroi to support boxing.
It is understood Aihi will be accompanying Moroi for the official opening later in the week.
“Aihi was supporting another faction who is not an affiliate of the PNG Amateur Boxing Union. KABA is an affiliated boxing association,” he said.
He said KABA was prepared to host the national boxing trials.
Aisaisa said he was hoping the two leaders would help lure financial backing for the tournament.
It will be a national trial with teams coming from other parts of PNG and fighting in villages like Aipeana, Hisiu and Veifa’a.
Aisaisa also thanked the provincial administration for supporting KABA at the boxing championships in Vanimo, West Sepik.
They won three gold medals, one silver and a bronze.
He said KABA sent five boxers and each of them return with a medal.
