LAE police has warned supporters and voters of local level government (LLG) candidates in Lae, Morobe, not to cause problems during the election period.

Lae police operations commander Insp Fred Kaiwa yesterday said police would be out in full force and anyone thinking of creating problems would be dealt with.

Kaiwa said he had about 350 policemen and women on the ground to ensure the elections were conducted smoothly.

“A special 21-day operation will be conducted in Lae,” Kaiwa said.

“We will do awareness, look for escapees and criminal elements and execute outstanding warrants.”

He urged supporters of candidates and voters to respect the law and conduct themselves appropriately during the election period.

A traffic operation to rid the city roads of unroadworthy vehicles has also started law week Monday and will continue for two weeks.
