POLICE traffic festive period operations have caught 1,187 defective vehicles in East New Britain for the period of Dec 6-24.

A total of K46,990 were collected from drivers and owners as fines.

ENB police commander Supt Sylvester Kalaut said most vehicles that were served Traffic Infringement Notices were unregistered, uninsured, non-renewal of safety stickers, smooth tyres and some drivers were unlicensed.

He said 56 defective notices were served on vehicle owners and drivers and six arrests were made for traffic offences.

During this period, 97 roadblocks were conducted in ENB with a total of 3,679 vehicles checked.

He said this money would be paid into the ENB treasury to go into the government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
