Kale slips through for Eels’ victory

JUNIOR Kale scored a clincher in the 32nd minute to see a much relieved Kaputs Maleo Eels side beat Mudiki Storms  in the main game of the Gerehu touch competition on Sunday.
Kale’s try was converted by his teammate Jonah Magara to register a 6-4 win.
Storms, boasting of rugby talent Kilori Susuve and University soccer star Desmond Waku at the steer, opened their score sheet to lead 4-0, courtesy of an unconverted 30m runaway try to Matthew Oadeba, but failed to keep the points ticking.
Opportunities went begging for Storms throughout the match, but it was quick recovery of the Eels’ defence that proved the difference in the end.
The Gerehu Stage Four side kept their opponents out for most of the game, before they broke through with eight minutes remaining to score a converted try.
In the other top-of-the-table matches, unofficial leaders Freeway Cowboys led by stand-in generals, Grade Five students Allan Lote and Bobby Bau Tovi, beat them 6-0 while Francis Maso and Shadrack Oki played blinders for Crushers in their 13-4 win over Lions.
In the other A Grade results, Karuka Saints defeated Swans 12-6, Border Rats beat GSI Soats 6-0.
The other teams which included  Bears, Knights, Brumbies, Kings, Raiders, Mixmates, Eagles, Bulldogs, Waiks Footbits, Dakas, Spiders and Seagulls all won their respective games to complete round six.
The match between Komiri and Bodua Brothers could not be played due to the death of a Brothers’ player early in the week.
