AFTER weeks of delays due to rain, the Dulux Central cricket championship division 5 went ahead at both Kalo and Babaka villages last week.

In the men’s tournament held at Babaka, the Kalo men showed why they are a strong cricketing village when they scored a total 334 runs in two games.

Against tournament hosts Babaka, Kalo came out firing and scored 166 runs off 15 overs – the highest tally scored so far in the provincial championship.

Openers Pala Karona and Pokana Kalai put on a steady partnership of 26 runs both going for 13 runs each.

Number three Pokana Iamo came out guns blazing scoring a quick 57 runs including seven 6s. In reply Babaka could only manage 103 runs.

In Kalo’s second game against Kamali opener Kalai scored a fine 81 runs finding the boundary 14 times with eight 6s and six 4s to be named the player of the tournament.

Kamali replied with 88 runs off their 15 overs.

Other results were Babaka 4-112 beat Kaparoko 10-106,  Kaparoko 3-76 beat Kamali 10-67.

The Babaka and Kamali game saw Babaka score 161 runs and the game was called off due to heavy rain which meant the Kalo-Kaparoko match was also washed out.
