TANIA Kalop is grateful that the pathway to her dream of becoming a journalist has been provided by Life PNG Care.
The 19-year-old from West New Britain was admitted by Life PNG Care (LPC) last year as her parents could not afford to support her.
Her parents are old and live in Gerehu Stage 2.
Kalop told The National that she did Grade 9 and 10 at Hoskins Secondary School in 2013 and 2014 and come to Port Moresby with her parents. But they were unable to cater for her needs and enrolment into Grade 11.
“I am fortunate to have all the support from LPC,” Kalop said.
“Collin (Pake), the LPC director and Freda (wife) paid my school fees, provided me lunch money and clothes.
“I feel at home and am doing well in school.
“I want to become a journalist.”
Kalop said her motivation to become a journalist were attributed to her admiration for work of presenters on television (TV) and reading articles written by reporters in newspapers.
“She does well in history and language and literature,” she said.
Kalop is currently doing Grade 12 at Marianville Secondary School where she did Grade 11.
She wants to study journalism at Divine Word University in 2017.
“I’m working very hard and focus to do well in the final examinations and see where I go from there,” Kalop said.
“If I’m not successful, I can look for some other colleges but I believe that everything is possible with God.
“As a leader (of the 22 children at the home), I also encourage the little ones and I have learnt a lot of good things.
“Collin and Freda are like my parents and we are all like a family.
“We go to church together and do many things which are good for our spiritual and physical development.”
Freda said Kalop was a good girl and a leader who was doing great at school.
