AFTER the successful week-long Chauka Kamalah Game Fishing (CKGF) tournament in Manus early this year, the organisers are looking forward for a much bigger and better one in 2017.

As part of preparations towards next year’s tournament, the association will be staging its first fundraising activity on March 4 at the Lorengau town market.

The fundraiser, according to the chairman Simon Ronnie, pictured, is “a sustainable fundraising that will leave a legacy behind.”

As part of the event, people can purchase raffle tickets and enter a draw to win 24 sheets of 12-feet roofing iron.

The tickets are going for K50 each.

Ronnie said tickets had been distributed for sale since last month and he anticipated a good turn-out on Friday when five lucky winners would be announced to collect their roofing iron.

The game fishing competition is trying to build a good relationship with the community by providing an opportunity to solve their housing needs at a lower cost in order to improve their living standards.

“Owning a house is a basic need in life and everyone must own a house, that’s why (CKGF) is providing that incentive to the general public in Manus to participate, win and enjoy the lifetime benefit,” he said.

Those who had not yet purchased tickets can get them from Chauka Car Rental Office in Lorengau, while those at Los Negros can obtain tickets from Wales Robinson-Loniu, Dale Cambel-Coconut Bar, Benny Dipon Naringel, Angela Milali-Riuriu and Rodrick Nombut-Salamei.

The draw will be conducted under police presence.

The public in Manus and Manusians from other provinces are encouraged to participate as well.

Ronnie said CKGF had adopted a fundraising plan which would be implemented throughout the year, with the first being held on Friday.

That would be followed by a mid-year draw for posts and an end-of year draw for a full set of building materials.
