TWO prominent Papua New Guinean corporate executives have been named on the new board and management of InterOil.

Former Bank of PNG Governor Sir Wilson Kamit is the new chairman while Chevron oil executive Isikeli Taureka takes up a new role as InterOil’s executive vice president (EVP) of corporate development and government relations.

Current EVP Christian Vinson, who has led InterOil’s corporate development and PNG government relations efforts since the company’s inception, will retire this month.

InterOil’s chairman and interim chief executive Dr Gaylen Byker said: “We are thankful for Christian’s many years of dedication and hard work and for what we’ve accomplished over the years because of his efforts.

“Additionally, as we embark on our next phase of growth, we are pleased to have such distinguished citizens of Papua New Guinea as Sir Wilson agreeing to be nominated to the board of directors and Taureka joining the management of InterOil.”

The InterOil announcement on Wednesday did not indicate when Taureka is likely to take up his post as the company negotiates a new LNG development in the Gulf province with ExxonMobil.

Taureka, of PNG and Fijian parentage, has been a senior executive with Chevron since the 1990s and has headed Chevron operations in Southeast Asia and China.
