Kanawi awarded medal for his service

NATIONAL AIDs Council’s acting director Wep Kanawi was honoured with a medal for his service to PNG.
Mr Kanawi was invested with the Companion of the Order of the Star of Melanesia (CSM) in the Independence Anniversary awards.
This was given in recognition for his 44 years of service in public administration and governance in his distinguished career as a senior public servant and departmental head.
Also acknowledged was his leadership in major sports, notably soccer, and to the community through active involvement in humanitarian and charity causes.
Mr Kanawi, who is also an officer in the Order of the British Empire, (OBE), said it was a great day for him as he had served PNG long and faithfully.
Awardees of the Companion of the Order of the Star of Melanesia are those with distinguished service to a high degree in any field to PNG and the Asia-Pacific region with emphasis on Melanesian countries.
This also extends to humanity and are considered to be inspirational and significant at the national level, or sustained over a period of no less than 15 years.
This award is second to the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu, with the title “grand chief”.
