Kandep hospital nears completion

ENGA’S K1.7 million Kandep Rural Hospital is near completion and about 50,000 people will benefit from better health care services.
The hospital is funded through the district’s joint district planning and budget priorities committee headed by local MP and Works, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye.
The hospital will also serve the people of Margarima and Mendi in Southern Highlands province, who share the border with Kandep.
Local contractor Neno Construction is now putting the final touches to the hospital by building the pathway and connecting electricity.
Neno Construction managing director Paul Kurai said yesterday from Wabag that the administration building, the wards and maternity ward, HIV/AIDS clinic, doctors’ and staff houses were already complete.
Mr Kurai said about 90% of the work had been done and the hospital should be opened later this month.
He said the project was supposed to have been completed late last year but was delayed because of the by-election.
